I believe that this friend of yours really learned a lesson. Another important tip is to hire the cab services provided in the airport in which you have a fixed rate. This is good in countries where you don’t speak the local language and the cab drivers generally don’t speak English (or any other language you don’t have the domain). This same friend also passed through a similar situation in Prague (cab drivers there normally overcharge tourists – be very aware).
